[Maybe he's more sensitive of it than he needs to be. Maybe because, in Insomnia it would have been news. His choice of partner would have been examined and critiqued, while everything about her would have been pulled out of the dust to evaluate if she was a fitting companion for the prince's retainer.

He doesn't have to worry about any of that here, but he's still kept their relationship fairly low-key, and so has she.]

We met on my first day here. She was on her way to the clinic, but was kind enough to stop and answer some of my questions.

And then???

And then we got to know each other better and developed feelings for one another. In much the same way many relationships progress.
