CHARACTER
Character Name: Ignis Scientia
Character Age: 22
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: Just before the group head to Altissia
History: Wiki!
Personality: The smart, stubborn, eternally reliable Team Mom, Ignis is the member of the group who can always be called on for sound advice, an understanding shoulder, and some of the best cooking in Lucis. From the roots of his childhood friendship with Noctis he has been a solid presence in the prince's life and is always far more mature and dignifed than his years would suggest, giving his help and offering support wherever it was needed (up to and including picking up the prince's mess or helping to organise his day). After the death of Noctis' mother, he stepped in to fill many of the roles that she had left empty.
As an individual, Ignis is intelligent and charismatic, able to articulate himself in a way that speaks of his high level of education, and he is not shy of learning new things wherever he can. His eloquence often gives him an upper hand in arguments and, when coupled with a natural charm, makes him incredibly persuasive when the situation calls for it. In times when a quick, clever answer is required - such as the group's entry into Altissia (when they were keenly quizzed on the reason for their visit) - Ignis is the person that you want on your side. He makes it his business to be as informed as possible about situations that the group are about to walk into, or new places they are headed towards, occasionally dropping titbits of information as they go.
He is persistent to a fault and even to a point where he should probably not be, and will always push himself far more than he pushes those around him. While he does know his own limits, and when he ought to bow out (even if others may not agree with the line he draws), that does not mean that he necessarily will. He is clear-headed and rational but highly determined, and does not give up easily, with these two sides of his personality sometimes rising up to play against each other. Later in canon, after being blinded, Ignis insists upon continuing on with his friends despite being entirely unable to see, fight, or defend himself at all. Though he states that if he can no longer continue he will 'bow out', it would seem obvious to many that that time had already come. This reflects his loyalty, undoubtedly, but also his unwillingness to admit that he may no longer be useful.
Although at first it may seem that the bookish, spectacle-wearing Ignis does not quite fit in with his group of friends, he is as adventurous as any of them and not shy of jumping into a fight. Though he usually (read: always) prefers to have some kind of plan - and will offer one in detail if he can - he cooperates just as well on the fly and uses his skills to mark weak points for his companions to hit. In battle and in life on the whole he is sharp-witted and unfailingly proactive, able to adapt to almost any situation while his resourcefulness proves to be a valuable asset to the group. He is undoubtedly the most practical of the four, and the one most likely to hold them back from rash actions and point out a path which may be easier. However, he is not above knowing when they have been routed and when it is time to set the wilder natures of his friends free, even if he dislikes the necessity.
Ignis is honest - bluntly so - and particularly when he feels that honesty, while it may sting more than a lie, would be for the best. He is sincere in everything he does, from his close bonds with his friends, to his temper when pushed to the edges of his tolerance, to his chivalrous nature around women. When Aranea becomes their brief companion, he voices his concern that someone such as her is required to fight, despite her assurances that she can more than take care of herself. His calm nature forms the metaphorical eye of the storm and though he may sometimes seem cold when he speaks, he has a quiet kindness and patience that quickly makes itself known.
Alongside these qualities, he also has a dry sense of humour which manifests itself in quick one-liners and puns, as well as occasional scathing observations of the situation he happens to be in if he is finding it to be unpleasant. Though often plain spoken his undeniable wit comes to the fore in such moments. Although, despite being a very good judge of character, he has difficulty with catching on to other people's jokes (because he takes himself just a bit too seriously).
Inventory: 2x daggers, 1x javelin, some basic cooking equipment.
Abilities: Ignis has no particular 'powers' which cannot be used without the presence of Noctis (ie, manifesting weapons). However, he is still a highly adept fighter (with his specialities being daggers and the javelin) as well as being agile and quick on his feet. His particular skill, and one he certainly excels at, is cooking - he is able to think up recipes at the most inopportune times if given the inspiration.
Flaws: His most glaring flaw is undoubtedly his stubbornness. While to a point it's a plus, it can also lead him to push himself much too far and to put himself into positions where he causes others to be in danger (for example, later in his canon, he insists upon accompanying his friends when they will be put into a position of having to watch/protect him because he's blind). He doesn't know how to take 'no' for an answer.
He's a perfectionist, and while he can tolerate deviations and chaos up to a point, tends to lose his temper when things get too far out of hand.
He is prone to gloating when things do go his way, or when he's proven right.
